Customer Review: Cuts Well/Dies Quickly
It's been one year and I'm on my second unit (first one was replace by Lowes) and now my current one is in the shop getting the carb rebuilt. It had about 4 tanks of gas run through it before its untimely demise and was stored EMPTY over the winter. My local service center AND Troy-Bilt say that additives in the gasoline (alcohols etc) caused the issue. This seems suspicious, but even if this is the case I would expect to get a bit more life out of the trimmer before a carb rebuild is necessary. Both parties are telling me I may need a carb rebuild every year! I'm considering cutting my losses at this point and buying a Stihl instead.
Customer Review: Looks good, but not worth it, not even slightly
I bought this product from Lowe's. I used it for about 15 minutes with the string head and was very impressed, right up until the moment that it died and would not restart. I took it back to the store, where they gave me a refund, no questions asked. I was hoping that the extra $$ compared to my previous Homelite would get me a quality product. It didn't. Based on my experience, and on the other reviews, I don't think that I will be buying Troy-Bilt again.

Customer Review: Great battery - good motor - fairly poor design
I love the battery on this trimmer and the motor is quite strong for a cordless. I wish that Troy-bilt would get its act together and release the other garden products that were listed on the box, especially the chain saw. As others have found the trigger switch is useless. I had to rig up something that would keep it pressed for me but allow me to switch off for the frequent hand feeds of the trimming cord. I think that it only feeds when you first turn on the unit but that doesn't work if you want to do a continuous stretch like I do. I would also have liked to see the unit have an adjustable tilt head like the Craftsman and Black and Decker do. I still value the Troy-bilt trimmer for its new age battery but the overall system is quite poorly designed.
Customer Review: oh my aching hands
I purchased a tb57 today, and was impressed with how quickly it can go to work out of the box. In 4 hours the battery was fully charged. Set up was quick and easy....i did not even look at the instructions. Upon testing it became quickly apparent that the unit does not telescope out far enough, requiring me to stoop over to "get er done". Then....after about 15 mins it became painfully apparent that the trigger is way too stiff. My fingers were cramping up....i had to switch hands constantly to allow my fingers to recouperate. After about 45 min i was more exausted than if i had used my heavier gas powered trimmer. The gas trimmer is long enough & makes a clean cut in 1-2 passes.... with the tb57 you must make 5-7 passess while somewhat hunched over to get the same results. Yes it is powerfull enough.....but just barely....so it takes longer to get the job done & with more effort. So.... on one hand you get a hassle free start up....little noise and no smelly fumes....on the other you get a poorly designed unit that will make you work harder than need be & curse the idiots that allowed such a product into the market with obvious flaws. Another positive point is the battery and charger....they seem high quality and work well.....the battery has a button you can push to see how much of a charge is left. After finishing the yard i stll had 3/4 of a charge left, not bad at all. If they made it a bit longer and fine tuned the trigger....this would be a great product worthy of 5 stars....but they rushed it and as a result it works, but kinda sucks....thanks guys at Troy Biilt...YOU BLEW iT !! If you have a small yard...this may work out well for you...but to those with larger areas to maintain i would say you would be better off finding a more suitable alternative. ADD NOTE - Ok, i want to update this evaluation as i have spent more time with it and i want to clarify a few points. As far as the power goes, it IS strong enough to cut most weeds you will encounter.It just takes a little longer to do it than with a gas trimmer. And it IS great to be able to "grab and go"...i absolutely love the lithium ion battery and charger. It charges relatively quick and holds a rather large charge, giving you roughly 2 hrs use. And it will not develope a memory so you can re-charge at any point. It IS so nice to not have to mess with gas & oil. The TB57 is an instant action accessory that is ready when you are. The spools are quick and easy to change, although....the spool is smaller than my gas trimmer so i will end up changing the spool more frequently. I duct taped down the trigger safety eliminating that nuisance, so it is a little easier to use in that regard. The more i use it, the more i like it. I think having two trimemrs is the way to go. A gas one for the spring tough stuff....and an electric one for weekly trimming. Because it is a "hassle free" system, i find myself trimming more often & my lawn looks better for it. in fact, i think i will likely use it today. The TB57 has earned my respect and a place in my arsenal of weed whacking weapons.

Customer Review: Very Frustrating
I really can't advise anyone to buy this product. Literally in the first minute of use after I installed it, I had to unscrew the spool and hand-feed the line at least 6 times. It broke over and over again, I got about 10 feet of my border done. I was only cutting grass I can't imagine that this line will hold up on weeds. If you are looking for .065 line, look elsewhere you will only be as frustrated as I am right now.

Works very well. Installation in, ironically, a Tanaka trimmer was a little tricky. Instructions are terse, and while finding the proper threaded adapter was easy, figuring out the correct combination of washers/spacers was not. This thing is a charm. After struggling for a couple of hours to get my old head off the trimmer (poor engineering), the Tanaka installed in five minutes. This unit has a balanced, highly engineered feel to it. It's not simply a piece of molded plastic. The package claims it is more efficient and will increase horsepower, and after my initial test I believe it. It gives the entire tool a different feel and balance. And I am looking forward to doing my yardwork without the frustration of untangling line ever thirty seconds! The kid includes several configurations of adapters-I believe their claim to fit 95% of all string trimmers! Great job Tanaka. I'm a believer and will take a look at your power tools next time I need something.

We bought this product because we needed a spool replacement for our weed whacker. Unfortunately, when this string breaks, it breaks inside the spool so you need to open the whole thing up to pull the string to the outside. That gets really old to have to take it apart every time the string breaks.

Customer Review: Didn't Meet Minimum Needs for a Trimmer
I bought one of these after my long time John Deere (Homelight rebranded) Trimmer had finally given up the ghost. First: I do not have a huge lot nor do I have a lot of heavy grass to contend with. My yard is pretty much the same as most suburban people and it requires a lot of weekly manicuring to keep up. This unit had a lot of difficulty in starting. You should only have to give a unit 3 pulls, with the choke on and properly primed, to start it. Right out of the box, it would start then quit. Start, then quit. Once it finally did warm up the trimmer never seemed to rev up to full speed as if it was starving for fuel. Flipping the trimmer upside down to edge the lawn (something a trimmer must be able to do) would most certainly starve the trimmer and quit. This system has a horrible fuel delivery design and can't even perform the basic needs of a trimmer. The rock guard, or whatever you want to call it, is too small. When trimming, this thing will blow stuff all over you! I don't know why they even put the rock guard on because I got beaten up every time I used it! I gave this thing the benefit of the doubt based on price but after 30 days I just couldn't take it anymore. If it has difficulty starting, can't edge because it starves out for fuel and the rock guard won't protect the operator from flying debris then it just becomes a miserable experience to use. I took it back and got a full refund without any questions.

I ordered this edger as my first attachment for the Troy-Bilt TB70SS 2-cycle string trimmer I purchased locally last summer. Troy-Bilt 31cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered Straight Shaft String Trimmer With SpeedLock #TB70SS Having read the reviews here and recognizing that some have had trouble with the "universal" nature of the Expand-It attachments on various machines, I was inclined to be skeptical. I need not have worried. The attachment arrived in good shape, and appeared to be in never-used condition. The only indication that it is not new is the "RECON" mark heat-stamped into the plastic near the curb guard. The attachment mated perfectly with my power unit, and off I went. It took about 20 feet of sidewalk before I got the hang of edging with this attachment; following that, the job went fast. Homelite says that light contact with the sidewalk or curb wlll not damage the blade. Good thing, because on this first cut of a never-edged sidewalk the sparks were occasionally flying! Now that I can see the edge I anticipate future jobs will be easier. This appears to be a sturdy, well-built tool. Buying factory-reconditioned is a little like eating pot-luck, but the total $40 I paid, including shipping, is about two-thirds the lowest price I found for new attachments.

I have had this product for 2 years and it has been painful to start since day one. My previous homelite (different model that I can't find anymore) lasted me 10 years with one spark plug change and a few filter cleanings; and started every time with ease. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT AT ALL! I have spent numberous hours fixing the string and getting it to start. It looks like I have to give it one star for this review to work so it gets 1 star for looking nice and zero stars for not actually working....

Black & Decker is a reliable name whose products I have purchased over the years. I actually bought this particular product as a standby, but use it more than I thought I would. I have a very small lawn in the front and back and actually have someone mow the front lawn for me. However, my back lawn's grass is kind of weak and his equipment is too powerful, it always killed some of the grass, especially around the edges with the trimmer he uses. I decided to do it myself so I purchased this lightweight trimmer and it serves my purpose. My grass is in better shape than it was and I really don't mind doing such a small lawn this way. In early spring when the grass has started to grow, before this person starts his mowing season, my trimmer comes in handy to give a finished look to my front lawn. Again, I am using this on a very small lawn and it does a great job. Let's not forget it's intended purpose, it also does a great job trimming and edging.
